Winter is coming - and so are these L&D events

The nights are drawing in, public transport is full of the aroma of pumpkin spice lattes, and Mariah is back on the radio already. But don’t let the increasingly-grim weather dampen your spirits – there’s still plenty of life left in the old year yet, particularly in the world of L&D. With the 2020s almost upon us, there are a number of upcoming events with their eyes firmly on the future. So pick up a Sharpie and start fanning through the remaining pages of your Funny Cats 2019 desk calendar and make a note of these.

CIPD Annual Conference (6-7th November 2019) Let’s start with a biggie. With the focus on influencing people and business decisions, CIPD’s annual centrepiece brings two days of learning and networking opportunities to Manchester, with speakers including Trevor Phillips OBE and Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith. And once again, registration is free.

DisruptHR (3rd December 2019) Expanding beyond learning, DisruptHR is a one-day event in London that challenges any and all preconceptions about HR. With fifteen c-suite speakers confirmed, it’s going to be one packed day, and registration is open now.

Workforce L&D (14-15th November 2019) Nashville: famous for hot chicken, a replica of the Parthenon, and Johnny Cash; not so famous for L&D. But nevertheless, it’s playing host to this forward-looking conference, exploring the impact of VR, Gamification and strategic soft skills. If you’re anywhere near Tennessee in November, it’s well worth a visit.

Learning 2019 (27-30th October 2019) Staying firmly on the other side of the pond (Orlando, to be precise), Elliott Masie’s annual event is now in its 29th year and is still a vital opportunity for learning leaders. This year sees industry legends Nigel Paine and Donald Taylor join the roster of speakers. There are discounts available for registration too.

Fuse Tribe 20 (26th November 2019) We’re no slouches ourselves when it comes to events. Building on the success of Fused!2019 and our various lunch and breakfast events for learning leaders, we’re hosting our own tribal gathering for learning leaders keen to embrace and leverage the opportunities emerging from the rapid evolution of learning and development. We’re keeping the exact details a bit secret for now, but let’s just say that it’ll be magic. Intrigued? Register your interest now.

The immediate future might seem mostly full of jostling umbrellas, seasonal supermarket sandwiches and the daily battle over the office thermostat. But for L&D, the outlook is definitely on the sunny side. And getting along to one of these events is only going to make things a bit brighter.
